CHC30202 CERTIFICATE III in Home & Community Care

Certificate III in Aged Care Work  |   Certificate III in Disability Work
Certificate IV in Aged Care Work  |   Certificate IV in Community Services (Disability Work)

CTC offers Certificate III in Home & Community Care both part time and full time.

Full time mode of study

Qualification: 15 Units of Competence from the Community Services Training Package.
Pre-requisites: Senior First Aid Certificate, numeracy/literacy at Year 10 level education.
Course duration: 10 weeks incorporating 60 hours of workplace assessment.
Payment plans: Offered with a 5% administration fee. Payment plans must be finalised prior to course commencement.
Attendance: Monday to Friday 9.00am - 4.45pm (approximately)
RCC/RPL: Offered with a $50.00 non refundable application fee. All RCC/RPL granted will attract a $2.75 per actual hour fee (payable before recognition granted).

At the completion of the course, Graduates can apply for a range of employment opportunities both in aged care facilities and community-based care environments.

Certificate III in Home & Community Care is also offered in FIVE BLOCKS, giving students five exit points.

BLOCK 1:  
Orientation morning + 7 days of training.
PRE-REQUISITE: Senior First Aid Certificate. (Senior First Aid training may be directed to either State Training Services telephone - 1300 766 086 or Royal Life Saving Society of Australia telephone - 8234 9244 for a fee of $115.00)
Units of Competency:
Participate in safety procedures for direct care workers (CHCOHS302A)
Apply basic first aid (HLTFA1A)
Subjects include:
Infection control
Introduction to OHS&W
Personal safety in the workplace
Personal care practices
Manual handling practical
Manual handling safety and injury prevention
Law & Ethics
Stress management
NOTE A Statement of Attainment will be issued upon successful completion of all subjects, provided that CTC office reception has been given a copy of the student’s current Senior First Aid Certificate.

BLOCK 2:  
11 full days of training + 30 hours of workplace assessment
Units of Competency:
Communicate appropriately with clients & colleagues (CHCCOM2B)
Work effectively with culturally diverse clients & co-workers (CHCCS405A)
Comply with information requirements of the aged care and community care industry (CHCINF8B)
Provide physical assistance with medication (Residential) (CHCCS303A)
Subjects include:
Advocacy and rights
Assertiveness
Attitudes
Care planning
Conflict resolution
Communicating with others
Cultural awareness
Introduction to disabilities
Interviewing & observation
Medication (Aged & Disability)
Standards RCS
Risks to clients
Workplace Information
Working in the community
Working with relatives
Teamwork
Workplace Assessment (30hrs)
Upon successful completion of all of the above subjects and block 1, a Statement of Attainment will be issued.

BLOCK 3:  
12 full days of training + 30 hours of workplace assessment.
Units of Competency:
Provide support to an older person (CHCAC1C)
Provide personal care (CHCAC2C)
Orientation to aged care (CHCAC3C)
Support an older person to meet their emotional and psychosocial needs (CHCAC6C)
Provide care support which is responsive to the specific nature of dementia (CHCAC15A)
Subjects include:
Ageing Process
Basic clinical skills
Challenging behaviours
CVA tutorial
Continence/incontinence
Dementing illness
Leisure & recreation
Loss & Grief
Mobility, aids & positioning
Nutrition & hydration
Quality of life
Rehabilitation & independence
Research
Sexuality
Self awareness and esteem
Social deviance
Social role valorisation
Workplace Assessment (30hrs)
Upon successful completion of all of the above subjects, block 1 & 2, a Statement of Attainment will be issued.

BLOCK 4:  
Units of Competency:
Orientation to disability work (CHCDIS1C)
Facilitate co-operative behaviour (CHCCS401A)
Assist with self-medication (Community) (CHCHC304A)
Subjects include:
Crisis support
Disability awareness
Learning difficulties
Introduction to mental health
Introduction to drug & alcohol
Head injuries / epilepsy
Spina bifida / Cerebral palsy
Life skills
Medication (Home & Comm.)
Upon successful completion of all of the above subjects, block 1, 2 & 3, a Statement of Attainment will be issued.

BLOCK 5:  
Units of Competency:
Work effectively in a home or community care environment (CHCCH301B)
Provide personal care in a home and community care environment (CHCCH302B)
Subjects include:
Blood borne viruses
Home & community care awareness
Home hygiene & Safety
Meal planning

Full Certificate III in Home & Community Care will be issued following successful completion of all 15 units of competency from Blocks 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5.
